Q: How did you get into photography?

When I was little, my dad worked for a company that hosted a Christmas party every year; they'd always give the children presents. On your 9th birthday you got one last large gift. I got a kodak point and shoot camera and I was obsessed instantly. My dad noticed my interest and a few years later he taught me how to use his Olympus film camera on a trip to Scotland (he never saw that camera again, poor guy). The obsession grew and I ended up in every photography class I could find and lived in the darkroom until I graduated University.

Q; What inspires you on a daily basis?

The light and the landscape are two of my biggest inspirations. I live in a stunning location with cliffs, lakes, forests, and rivers and I spend as much time as possible out exploring. When I'm feeling really stuck creatively, I will dive head first into a self-portrait series where I will try to focus on photographing what I'm feeling rather than what I'm seeing, or I will head to the cinema or art gallery. I still draw heavily on fine art photographers and painters for inspiration.

Q: What equipment do you use?

I'm a canon shooter. I shoot with a canon 5d mkiv, and a 6d as a second body. My favourite lenses are: 35mm 1.4, 50mm 1.4, 85mm 1.2, 135mm 2.0. I also still shoot with my hasselblad 500cm and my polaroid sonar land camera.

Q: Tell us something unique about you...

I am such a country girl at heart, but I still have my New York ties. I did my post-grad studies in Publishing at Columbia University, had a solo art show in Manhattan, and had my photography showcased on a billboard in Times Square.
